Sometimes we make things harder than they have to be. We get so excited about starting something new and tell everyone we know. Then the pressure of seeing things through sets in and we tell ourselves that: 1) failure is not an option; or 2) we can’t move forward until it’s done “perfectly.” Can we be real for a second? Things happen and we’re not perfect. Accepting the fact that there will be hiccups along the way can help minimize some of the doubt.
Commit to the compelling reason. “Why am I doing this?” Keep asking and answering this question. Write it down, create a collage, record yourself and play it when times seem rough. Oftentimes, the battle is in our heads. The conscious mind can’t comprehend what the subconscious mind is working on and this causes conflict. Relive the “vision” and map out a course that will guide you to where you want to be. Again, things change and depending on the length of the journey, applying wisdom and knowledge may get you to your final destination in ways that you never would have imagined when you first started out.
Stop! You’re doing too much. So you “found” the next greatest thing and you’re ready to share it with the world. That’s great, but pause for a moment: Think things through, take it in stages, do your due diligence, and ask LOTS of questions. Taking these steps will help you avoid pitfalls that you might have overlooked. Why set yourself up for failure?
Hold yourself accountable. Let discipline, faith, integrity, and obedience be your best friends. When it comes down to it, you’ll be by yourself for most of the journey…and that’s a good thing. Having a support system to lift you up when you can’t make sense of things is great, but this is your journey. It will be you racking your brain for hours trying think of the next move…not them. It will be you sacrificing a social life in order to improve the way of life…not them. So what are you left with? Discipline, faith, integrity, and obedience. Discipline yourself to spend at least a couple of hours thinking of ways to move forward. Always keep the faith that whatever want you do is possible. Integrity will keep you honest with yourself and others. Obedience will make sure you don’t deviate from all of the above.
